Trail Of Hope must be a new band in the scene, at least to me it is. I’ve heard the name before but I’ve never seen/heard them live or on cd. I first expected metalcore, probably just because of the name that reminds me of the 2 metalcore bands “A Trail Of Hope” & “Sparkle Of Hope”. However this is not the case at all! Trail Of Hope brings us old-school hardcore.
These guys released a first demo in 2008 and now have an eleven-track full album called “Break Loose” ready for the crowd. The length of the CD (only 23 minutes of music on it) totally gratifies my expectation of a full album in this genre.
Old-school hardcore bands mostly don’t seem to pay a lot of attention to how their recordings should sound so i’m not going to whine about that since this is their way of doing it... I just want to stress on the bad drum sound I hear on this album. The shredding guitar sound is pretty good and no complains about the vocals either. The bass sound though could use a lot more attack, it’s mussy which makes it really exhausting to listen to after a couple of track.
The songs are okay but don’t seem to convince me, probably because they all sound pretty similar to each other. There’s no real highlights and hardly any contrast throughout the album. For Example: i can hear a lot of the same notes and chords in all the songs. I like the riffs though and that’s what makes me curious about the future of this band. I’ll be checking their next album(s) to see what progress they will make.
